North Kingstown is a town in Washington County, Rhode Island, United States. The population was 26,326 at the 2000 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 151.1 km (58.3 mi). 112.9 km (43.6 mi) of it is land and 38.2 km (14.8 mi) of it (25.28%) is water. North Kingstown was named for King Charles II of England.
As of the census of 2000, there were 26,326 people, 10,154 households, and 7,310 families residing in the town. The population density was 233.2/km (603.9/mi). There were 10,743 housing units at an average density of 95.2/km (246.4/mi). The racial makeup of the town was 95.71% White, 0.97% African American, 0.55% Native American, 0.95% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.53% from other races, and 1.25% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.77% of the population.
There were 10,154 households out of which 35.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.6% were married couples living together, 10.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.0% were non-families. 22.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 3.03.
